When homeowners remodel a 3-piece main or ensuite bathroom—like the 5 x 8 ft and 7 x 9 ft layouts common across Allandale, Letitia Heights, Holly and Painswick in Barrie—replacing a standard tub alcove with a custom walk-in shower opens up room for spa-level shower fixtures and clean built-in storage. This renovation shows how a high-contrast black-and-white palette, multi-outlet plumbing and recessed LED niches come together in a compact room.
Multi-outlet matte-black shower system and dual illuminated niches
After stripping the old bathroom down to the bare studs and installing a continuous bonded waterproofing membrane across the walls and sloped shower pan, our crew rough-plumbed a multi-outlet matte-black shower system:
- Overhead rainfall shower head, wall body jets and a handheld sprayer on a slide rail, controlled by a thermostatic mixing valve that keeps water temperature steady.
- Two recessed matte-black shower niches framed between the wall studs and fitted with warm integrated LED strip lighting tucked into the upper reveal, keeping bottles off the floor while providing a soft evening glow.
- Large-format white-and-grey veined porcelain wall slabs contrasted with a dark feature wall inside the wet zone and enclosed in 10 mm clear frameless tempered glass.
Floating black vanity, vessel basin and geometric porcelain floor
Outside the shower enclosure, we kept the compact floor visually open by mounting a wall-hung matte-black floating vanity with a matching black vessel basin and wall-mounted spout. Exposing the geometric black-and-white porcelain floor tile underneath the cabinet makes the room feel wider, while a hardwired matte-black electric heated towel rail on the adjacent wall keeps towels warm through winter mornings; see our 5-step renovation process.
Permits and pricing for a project like this in Barrie
In the City of Barrie, converting a bathtub to a walk-in shower with relocated or upsized drain piping and multi-outlet supply lines requires a building permit through the City’s online APLI portal, while new circuits for LED niche lighting and a hardwired towel warmer are filed with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). Our published labour packages start at $8,000 for a 7 x 9 ft main bathroom and $11,500 for a 9 x 12 ft four-piece layout with a walk-in shower; check our Barrie bathroom renovation cost page or upload photos of your bathroom for a free itemized quote.
